History:

The word DARJEELING comes from the Tibetan word ‘Dorje’ which means the thunderbolt Scepter of the Hindu deity Shiva and ‘Ling’ which means ‘Land’. So Darjeeling is also known as ‘The Land of The Thunderbolt’.

The Darjeeling we visit today has a heavy Colonial Influence to it. Since 1828, Britishers settled down in Darjeeling by building a sanatorium for the British Soldiers. In fact, the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway which a very famous tourist attraction was built by the Britishers. And because of the Britishers love for the weather offered by Darjeeling, led to its transformation into a hill station.
